Behind the Music: A run down of all of the songs I have posted up to this date.

I know that most of you are not visiting eatdrinkginger to find music. However, it is such a big part of who I am and it was important to me I include this passion in my blog. I enjoy sharing the music I find almost as much as I love sharing the recipes I create. I am constantly looking for songs that are new to me whether they are for running to, cooking to, listening to in the car or just chilling out to.

With every post since I launched eatdrinkginger I have shared three songs, but I have told you nothing about any of them so I decided maybe some of you would like to know more about the music. Below is a list in order of the songs I have shared since day 1 along with their genre (as listed on iTunes) followed by a brief description of what kind of music it is and/or why I love it. Each song can be clicked on to hear on Youtube. For those of you who are intrigued enough to browse through these, I truly hope you discover some “new” songs that you love too. Please feel free to comment on the music you find and what you may want more of. This is one area where feedback for the blog would be so helpful! Thanks so much. Enjoy!

  1. Mas Que Nada (feat. The Black Eyed Peas) by Sergio Mendes
Brazilian. Such a fun song, great for a party. Gets people shaking their hips. I love that the Black Eyed Peas are featured in it.
  2. Stunner by Milky Chance
Alternative. Cool chill vibe and the lead singer has a very distinctive and unique voice.
  3. Domino (feat. Fitz) by ZZ Ward
Rock. (I say alt-pop-rock.) Amazing vocals and upbeat. If you like/know Fitz and the Tantrums, Fitz is featured singing in this song along with ZZ Ward. (iTunes calls it rock, I would say it is more alternative rock.) Great song!
  4. Crazy by Lost Frequencies & Zonderling
Dance. It is upbeat but has a cool melody, not all techno-like. Has a sweet message too.
  5. Line of Sight by ODESZA
    Electronic. Very cool, chill song.
  6. It’s Strange (feat. K.Flay) by Louis The Child
Electronic. I love Louis The Child. The words in this song are so super-sweet and I love the melody. His song Go is in a commercial that is on TV all of the time. (I bet you would recognize it.)
  7. Beat of My Drum by Powers
Alternative. Very upbeat and catchy cool song.
  8. Human Touch (Aquilo Remix) by Betty Who
Pop. Ohhhhh Betty Who. She really has the prettiest voice. This song has an electronic vibe to it. I really like it. (If you like it too, check out her cover of I Love You Always Forever, a hit originally by Donna Lewis. You should recognize it and Betty Who’s cover is so beautiful.)
  9. You Turn the Screws by Cake
Alternative. Cake is awesome! I love the horns and piano, they always use so many cool instruments in their music. Cool song with very clever lyrics. I have seen them in concert more than once and they are amazing and so talented.
  10. Need You Now by Cut Copy
Electronic. (I say Alternative-electronic.) This is the kind of song you can get lost in thought while listening to.
  11. All Night by Chance The Rapper
Hiphop/Rap. (I say it is also a little dance.) You cannot help but nod your head, tap your fingers or move your body to it. It’s catchy.
  12. Sit Next To Me by Foster the People
Alternative. I love this band. Great kinda-mellow beat, and like all of their songs, great lyrics.
  13. Gooey by Glass Animals
Alternative. Two words for this song: CRAZY-SEXY! This is the kind of song you hear playing in the hippest cocktail lounges or at the rooftop bar at those cool boutique hotels in NYC. I love the “poo bear” pet name reference in it too. Ha!
  14. Astronaut by Mansionair
Alternative. Also a really sexy lounge-song but what is so amazing about this song is who is singing it. When I looked up the video and saw the vocalist I was floored. Let’s just say I had a very different image in my mind of what to expect after having listened to it a lot. It was like being a judge on The Voice during the blind auditions then turning my chair to be shocked with who was performing. I love when singers can surprise you like that with their unique vocals.
  15. Ocean Eyes by Billie Eilish
Alternative. Mellow sexy song. You may not believe it but the singer is 17 years old and was younger when this was recorded. Very mature vocals. Ironically my 15 year old son just told me today I had to hear a new Khalid song called Lovely and that some girl Billie Eilish is singing in it with him. Ha! ( I love that my kid loves music too.) It is a beautiful song.
  16. Two High by Moon Taxi
Alternative. I love the guitar in this song as well as the vocals. It has such a beachy-vibe to me and that is never a bad thing.
  17. Friction by Imagine Dragons
Alternative. (I say alternative-rock) This song pumps me up when I am running or working out. It’s an intense and powerful song.
  18. Cry For Love by Harry Hudson
Pop. My son introduced me to this one. The song starts slow but it builds up.
  19. Trojans by Atlas Genius
Alternative. Fun and upbeat song. I get a ska-like feel from the guitar sound in this for some reason. (Think: English Beat, Sublime, Mighty Mighty Bosstones,…) There are no horns here or even any Jamaican-sounding influence but the guitar keeps taking me to that ska-like genre. I dunno why? Hmmm…
  20. O by Coldplay
Alternative. I mean how can anyone not love the sound of Chris Martin’s voice? This song is so beautiful. Like many Coldplay songs, the melody alone tells a story.
  21. We All Want the Same Thing by Rixton
British pop. This is such a catchy tune. Fun song to walk or drive to.
  22. Truth by Block Party
Alternative. I love Bloc Party and love how their songs build up. They definitely have an electronic vibe along with great percussion.
  23. 10,000 Emerald Pools by BØRNS
Alternative. Beautiful female vocals. Great chill song with pretty harmonizing too.
  24. Doses & Mimosas by Cherub
Alternative. (I say alternative, electronic and dance.) It has all three components. I love the chorus to this song. The lyrics are awesome too. It is a very unique song about the vices of fame. (NOTE: not for kids.)
  25. You and Me by Shallou
Electronic. (I say electronic, chill-dance) Another song you might hear in some cool lounge. Slightly upbeat but not overly dancy. Super-sweet lyrics.
  26. Lost One by Great Big Planes
Rock. So weird that it is considered a rock song. It has a more of an acoustic-like guitar-ballad sound to me. Mellow tempo. Pretty song.
  27. Unforgettable by Nvdes
Alternative. This is a very fun song that starts off slower but builds and is up neat with the sweetest message. The singer definitely has a unique-sounding voice.
  28. Good Mistake by Mr. Little Jeans
Alternative. Ok, this is truly one of my most favorite songs. I love the melody and the percussion. Love when they add the subtle tamborine and I love the vocals. I never get sick of listening to this one.
  29. Crime (feat. Skott) by Grey
Electronic. The first 35 seconds seem mellow but it picks up after that. Its a good hip-shaker and the lyrics are interesting.
  30. Wish I Knew You (Live) by The Revivalists
Alternative rock. Love this guys voice, very cool. This version is the live one with great horns.
  31. Sweet Emotion by The Kooks
Alternative. (I say funky-alternative.) Cool and funky rock-alternative song. This band is one of my very favorite bands. They are British and I love so many of their songs.
  32. Ride by Cary Brothers
Singer/songwriter. Cary Brothers is his name, but until I saw him live in concert I assumed “he” was two brothers, haha! Nope. Just him. His music is so-so beautiful. He has this amazing beachy-sounding guitar in his songs that compliments his voice perfectly.
  33. Catch by Palmistry
Electronic. Another uber-sexy song. Good music to play when cooking, or chilling out.
  34. Starfish and Coffee by Prince
R&B/Soul. This is one of my favorite Prince songs. Apparently Prince made Starfish and Coffee’s official video when he had a guest appearance on the Muppets! No joke, click the link and you will see it. Too funny. Loved the song before I ever saw this.
  35. Little Bit of Feel Good by Jamie Lidell
Pop. (I say funky-pop.) This song has a funky little groove to it. Its a feel-good kinda song.
  36. Booty Voodoo by Lee Coulter
Pop. This song cracks me up. (Apparently Lee Coulter must be an ass-man.) No judging. Its just funny.
  37. Dare by Gorillaz
Alternative. (I say electronic-alternative-dance.) Fun, makes you wanna dance.
  38. Frivolous Life by YesYou
Alternative. There is something about this melody that reminds me of ToTo’s Africa from back in the 80’s. Hmmm.
  39. Electric Feel by MGMT
Alternative. Great beat/percussion. Catchy tune and unique vocals.
  40. Royal Highness by Tom Grenna
Alternative (I say alternative-rock) Great vocals and guitar. Love this song and his voice.
  41. Dance on Me by Dylan Guthro
Pop. Ok true story, I heard this when I was waiting for my kids in Hair Cuttery and “shazamed” it to see what it was because I was digging it.
  42. Do You Want It All by Two Door Cinema
Alternative. Really upbeat fast-paced song. The chorus is a little repetitive but I still love it.
  43. If I Ever Feel Better by Phoenix Rock. Upbeat fun song. This band’s songs are known for being uptempo.
  44. The Wrestle By Frightened Rabbit Rock. Actually they are Scottish indie-rock and I can’t help it, I LOVE that you can actually hear their Scottish accents in this song. I love this band!
  45. Forever Yellow Skies by The Cranberries Rock. This song has been on my running playlist for decades. I love it, the upbeat tempo and awesome guitar riffs totally pump me up. The Cranberries were such a huge part of music from my generation. I was so heartbroken to hear of the passing of the lead singer Dolores O’Riordan this past January. She was a legend.
  46. Let Go by by RAC Electronic. Fun tap-your-foot or bop-your-head to the beat kinda song.
  47. Naive by The Kooks Alternative. One of my favorite songs of all time and definitely my favorite Kooks song although I do love so many.
  48. Percussion Gun by White Rabbits Alternative, although I would call them more of an indie-rock band. This is an awesome song to workout/run to. The title is clear, the PERCUSSION rocks in this.
