Behind the Music Part II

A rundown of all the songs added since the last music review post

Below is a list of every song I have included in my posts since the last music rundown I did along with the genre (according to iTunes) and a brief description of what I think of the song. If you click on any given song it will take you to Youtube to hear it.

  1. It’s Thunder and It’s Lightning by We Were Promised Jetpacks Rock. These guys are a Scottish indie rock band. You can totally hear the Scottish accents in the vocals, which I love. The song builds up, has a more serious or intense rock tone to it.
  2. Let’s Stay Together by Pat Benatar Rock. This song totally pumps me up. I love, love, love running to it. AMAZING guitar shreds. I am not one to ever get political however I feel the lyrics here couldn’t describe the state of our country more appropriately since our current president has been elected.
  3. Dirty Bombs by Living Things Rock. Great rock song to workout/run to. Another one that has a great political message.
  4. Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa by Vampire Weekend Alternative. This song personifies summertime. I imagine having a refreshing cocktail by the beach or being on a boat somewhere when I hear it. I love this band.
  5. When The Sun Goes Down by Arctic Monkeys Alternative. I love how this tune starts very chill but then gets crazy fast paced. Another song I love to run to. Amazing guitar in this.
  6. Random by Lady Sovereign Hip-Hop/Rap. Lady Sovereign ROCKS! I introduced my 15 year old son to this song and he can’t stop listening to it. Clever lyrics, great beat, awesome song. You will find yourself singing along to the chorus once you hear it, you just can’t help it.
  7. Cooler Couleur by Crookers Electronic/Electro house. When I looked this up it said this is the musical project of Italian DJ and producer, Francesco “Phra” Barbaglia however until I saw that I assumed this was a French artist. The lyrics are in English and French. Very cool tune, so catchy. Definitely has both electronic and dance influence.
  8. No Interruption by Hoodie Allen Hip-Hop/Rap. This song makes me laugh so hard. You have to listen to the lyrics. I love Hoodie Allen. Albeit funny lyrically it is equally melodic. You may know him from a song he did with Ed Sheeran called All About It.
  9. A Love Song by Ladyhawke Alternative/New wave, indie rock, synth-pop. This song takes me back to the 80’s new wave sound. Ladyhawke is from New Zealand and her music will put a smile on your face.
  10. Forget to Forget by Shy Martin Pop. I love the vocals in this and the chorus is super catchy. You will want to move to it.
  11. Burn the House Down by AJR Alternative. Great horns and percussion here. Very unique song.
  12. Heaven Only Knows by Bob Moses Electronic. Super chill song. Good one to listen to when you want background music or something to think deeply to.
  13. Black Mirror by Sophie Simmons Pop. Sophie Simmons vocals in this are really sexy. Cool tune.
  14. Never Look Back by Graffiti6 Alternative. What a funky and cool song. It has a great 60’s vibe using tambourines but also has old school dance and rock influence. I love this band. (It doesn’t hurt that the lead singer is hot, haha.) The lyrics are great. He is basically saying to have no regrets. Love with your whole heart, Never Look Back.
  15. 50 Feet Tall by New Politics This Danish rock band’s songs are so catchy. You are going to find yourself tapping your foot, bobbing your head or shaking your hips, you get the picture. Lead singer here is also a huge hottie.
  16. Ride Or Die (feat. Foster the People) by The Knocks Electronic. I love Foster The People so much that pretty much any song they come out with I know will be great. This song is so fun. The lyrics are about the lifestyle they lead as successful musicians who need to grow up.
  17. Lash Out by Alice Merton Alternative. Merton, a German-Canadian-English singer and songwriter writes catchy indie-rock and alternative music with great percussion and guitar. She has such strong vocals.
  18. Summer Fever by Little Big Town Country. Awesome summer tune, the video personifies how summer should be. Riding bikes, chilling with friends at the beach,… One to play when driving with all the windows down.
  19. White Sky by Vampire Weekend Alternative. As said above in song #4, Vampire Weekend’s music screams summertime and beach vibes. I love the lead vocals, the electric guitar and the harmonies are also awesome. This song makes me smile.
  20. Lonely Lullaby by Owl City Electronic. This is more of a ballad. A very simple, pretty song with beautiful vocals and piano.
  21. The Way We Are by Kate Boy Dance. The energy in this song is so contagious. I love the different beats, the drums, it gets me pumped up. The lyrics are very interesting as well. Great for working out, running or dancing to.
  22. Blurry Eyes (feat. Runn) by Hotel Garunda Electronic. Definitely a song for dancing to. The chorus is really upbeat and incorporates both electronic and dance genres so well together.
  23. On Hold by The xx Alternative. This band tends to have über-chill but equally über-sexy music. This is one of their more upbeat songs, yet it is still pretty chill. If you are not familiar with The xx check this one out and also check out Crystalised to hear one of their way more chill but super-sexy songs.
  24. Walk Over Me by The All-American Rejects Alternative. I mean C’mon if you like rock music how can you not love The All-American Rejects? Fun, upbeat, funny, energetic and just plain good old American rock music. I am however sorry he got walked all over by the chick he wrote this about. (Lyrics reference, haha.)
  25. Cult Logic by Miike Snow Alternative. I love this song. Great vibe. I hear this song and feel like I am on vacation. Great tune for driving to, it’s happy and has an awesome beat.
  26. Fallss by Bayonne Electronic. Very moving electronic song. This is the kind of tune you might hear playing in the background of a movie when they are showing something intense, surreal or full of strong emotions. Just listen, you will see what I mean.
  27. Talk by Why Don’t We Pop. Why Don’t We is an American pop boy band coming out of LA. This is such a catchy song with relatable lyrics. I mean every one of us has had at least one relationship in our lives like the one described in this song, right? Someone who when you fight with neither of you are ever listening. Hmmmm.
